Tyler, Texas — Northeast Texas is bracing for a dangerous mix of ice and snow starting Friday evening, with major disruptions to travel and the power grid expected through Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 6 p.m. Friday to noon Sunday across counties including Smith, Gregg, Cass, and Bowie. Up to 3 inches of snow may fall north of I-20, while areas from Mount Pleasant to Longview may receive between one-third and 1 inch of ice.
Texas DOT warns of slick overpasses, especially along I-30, I-20, and U.S. 259. Power outages are likely as ice accumulates on tree limbs and lines. Residents should avoid travel and prepare now by charging phones, gathering supplies, and checking on vulnerable neighbors.
Communities from Tyler to Marshall should anticipate hazardous conditions well into Sunday. Clean-up and power restoration could take several days.
