Shreveport, Louisiana — Power outages and dangerous travel conditions are likely across northwest Louisiana this weekend as a significant winter storm brings a mix of snow, sleet, and up to an inch of ice through Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, the Winter Storm Warning begins at 6 p.m. Friday and continues through noon Sunday for parishes including Caddo, Bossier, Lincoln, Claiborne, and Webster. Ice accumulations near the I-20 corridor could reach 1 inch, with 1 to 3 inches of snow and sleet in northern areas.

Roads like I-20, I-49, and Highway 71 will likely become impassable due to black ice and downed trees. The Louisiana DOT urges residents to delay all travel and prepare for possible multi-day outages.

Tree limbs weighed down by ice could cause damage to vehicles and structures. In areas like Ruston, Minden, and Monroe, residents should prepare emergency kits, secure alternate heating sources, and avoid all non-essential driving.

More updates are expected by Saturday morning. The warning remains in effect through noon Sunday.
