Paducah, KY – Western Kentucky is bracing for a prolonged winter storm set to unload up to 13 inches of snow along with periods of sleet and freezing rain through Sunday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 1 a.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Sunday for all of western Kentucky, including Paducah, Murray, Hopkinsville, and Owensboro. Heavy snow bands will develop early Saturday, while a mix of sleet and freezing rain is likely south of the Ohio River.
Road conditions will deteriorate rapidly Saturday morning across I-24, US-60, and I-69. KYTC warns travelers to expect reduced visibility and ice buildup, especially in the southern counties like Graves, Christian, and Trigg.
Sleet could suppress snow totals in far western counties, but icing may cause more issues for power lines and trees. Residents should prepare for extended power outages and avoid non-essential travel. Temperatures will remain below freezing all weekend.
The warning runs through 7 p.m. Sunday, and more alerts may be issued as the storm progresses.
