Billings, Montana – Drivers across southeast Montana could face rapidly changing road conditions today as light snow combines with strong winds, creating areas of blowing snow and sharply reduced visibility.

According to the National Weather Service in Billings, snow is beginning to move into southeastern portions of the state early this morning, with the greatest impacts expected where gusty winds overlap ongoing snowfall. The highest risk for blowing snow and visibility reductions includes areas east and southeast of Billings, including Miles City, Hysham, Broadus, Baker, and stretches of Interstate 94.

While snowfall amounts are expected to remain relatively light, forecasters stress that strong winds will play a major role in impacts. Snow already on the ground may be blown back onto roadways, leading to slick travel and sudden whiteout conditions in open areas. Rural highways and east-west roads are especially vulnerable as winds increase through the day.

Travelers along I-94 near Miles City and Highway 212 toward Broadus should be prepared for reduced visibility and drifting snow, particularly during peak wind periods. Even brief snow bursts could quickly worsen conditions.

Motorists are urged to slow down, use headlights, and carry winter travel supplies if heading out today. Conditions may fluctuate rapidly, and additional advisories could be issued if impacts increase. Stay tuned for updates as snow and wind continue to affect southeast Montana.
