Mount Holly, New Jersey – Snowfall across the Philadelphia metro region and surrounding areas is expected to create hazardous travel conditions Sunday, as a widespread Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through the evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, the advisory runs from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST Sunday and covers northern Delaware, much of southern and central New Jersey, and southeast Pennsylvania.
Forecasters expect snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches across southeast Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and northern Delaware, including Philadelphia, Wilmington, Camden, Cherry Hill, West Chester, Media, Norristown, and Doylestown. Farther north across central and northern New Jersey, including Morris, Somerset, Middlesex, Hunterdon, and Mercer counties, snowfall totals may reach 2 to 5 inches.
Additional advisory areas include Sussex and Warren counties in New Jersey, along with Berks, Lehigh, and Northampton counties in Pennsylvania, where 2 to 4 inches of snow are expected by evening.
The National Weather Service warns that roads, bridges, and overpasses may become slippery, particularly during periods of steady snowfall. Even where totals remain moderate, untreated surfaces may quickly become hazardous as temperatures remain near freezing.
Snowfall is expected to continue through much of the day before tapering off Sunday evening. Travel impacts are likely to persist into the evening hours as traffic volume increases and road treatment struggles to keep pace.
Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time. Conditions may vary widely over short distances, especially between urban corridors and suburban or rural roadways.
Road condition updates are available by dialing 511 in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Additional updates may be issued if snowfall totals or impacts change.
