Greenville, South Carolina – Drivers across the Greenville area should stay alert late tonight and into early Sunday as a second round of wintry weather moves through the Upstate, bringing a light rain and snow mix with potential slick spots on roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, the first round of wintry weather is tapering off this morning, with lingering snow and ice confined mainly to the higher elevations of the Blue Ridge. A second system arrives late tonight, bringing another chance for a rain and snow mix, mainly east of the mountains and along the Interstate 85 corridor.

If snow develops, accumulations are expected to remain light, generally less than 1 inch around Greenville and areas south and east of I-85. Any snow that does fall may briefly coat grassy surfaces, but colder air moving in overnight could still allow slick spots to develop on bridges, overpasses, and elevated roadways.

Earlier freezing rain in sheltered mountain locations has produced trace ice amounts, and while most of that threat diminishes this morning, leftover moisture combined with falling temperatures could refreeze later tonight. Roads such as I-85, I-385, and U.S. 123 could see isolated slick patches, especially during the overnight and early morning hours.

Precipitation is expected to clear out by Sunday morning, limiting the duration of impacts. Even so, motorists are urged to slow down, use caution on elevated surfaces, and remain weather-aware overnight as conditions change quickly. Additional updates may be issued if snowfall coverage or intensity increases.
