Louisville, Kentucky – Drivers in the Louisville metro area should stay alert this afternoon and evening as isolated snow showers move through the region, briefly creating slick roads and reduced visibility.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, scattered snow showers are possible later today and into the evening hours. While most of the day remains dry and chilly, any snow showers that develop could intensify quickly, producing brief bursts of heavier snow, gusty winds, and sudden drops in visibility.
Temperatures across the Louisville area are expected to hover in the lower to mid-30s, allowing snow to accumulate quickly on untreated surfaces during heavier showers. Roadways such as Interstate 64, Interstate 65, Interstate 71, and the Gene Snyder Freeway could see short-lived slick spots, particularly during the late afternoon commute and after sunset.
Although widespread accumulation is not expected, the quick-hitting nature of snow showers may catch drivers off guard. Reduced visibility and blowing snow could make travel hazardous for short periods, especially on bridges, overpasses, and elevated roadways.
Snow showers are expected to taper off tonight, with cold conditions lingering into Sunday and early next week. Motorists are urged to slow down during any snow bursts, increase following distance, and be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions. Additional updates may be issued if snow showers become more widespread or intense.
