Sioux Falls, South Dakota – South Dakota residents should prepare for continued cold late next week, though current signals suggest only limited snow chances with no clear indication of a widespread or high-impact winter storm.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, South Dakota remains under a colder-than-normal pattern from Saturday through the following Friday. While temperatures are expected to stay low, storm systems moving through the Plains appear disorganized or moisture-starved, keeping snowfall potential on the lower end.

In eastern South Dakota, including Sioux Falls and the Interstate 29 corridor, light snow or flurries are possible at times, particularly during overnight periods. Any accumulation looks minor, but brief slick spots could develop on untreated roads and bridges during colder mornings.

Across central South Dakota, including Aberdeen and Pierre, cold and generally dry conditions are favored. Snow chances remain limited, though occasional light snow could reduce visibility briefly, especially if winds increase across open areas.

In western South Dakota, including Rapid City and the Black Hills foothills, upslope flow could squeeze out light snow at times. Accumulations appear minimal for now, though higher elevations could see localized slick travel conditions.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation advises drivers to remain alert during cold mornings, as even light snow can quickly create icy patches. While significant snowfall is not expected at this time, updated advisories could be issued if storm tracks or moisture increase later next week.
