Amarillo, Texas – A late-January cool-down may bring brief winter weather signals to the Texas Panhandle, but current indications point to only a limited chance for snow, with no strong signs of a widespread or disruptive event.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, the Texas Panhandle sits on the southern fringe of a broader cold pattern from Saturday through the following Friday. While temperatures may dip low enough at times to support snow, storm systems moving across the Plains appear weak or moisture-limited, keeping snowfall potential modest.

In the Amarillo area and along the Interstate 40 corridor, light snow or flurries are possible during overnight or early morning periods if colder air overlaps with passing disturbances. Any accumulation would likely be minimal, though brief slick spots could develop on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads.

Farther west and north, including Hereford and Pampa, cold and mostly dry conditions are favored. Open terrain across the High Plains could allow gusty winds to combine with light snow, briefly reducing visibility even if totals remain low.

The Texas Department of Transportation advises drivers to remain alert during colder mornings, as even light snow can quickly create icy patches. While significant winter weather is not anticipated at this time, updates could follow if colder air or storm tracks shift farther south later next week.
