Pueblo, Colorado — Strong and potentially damaging winds are expected across the Pueblo area Friday as a cold front moves through southern Colorado.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a High Wind Watch is in effect Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for parts of the region, including Kiowa County, where wind gusts over 60 mph are possible. Pueblo and surrounding areas may also experience strong winds, with gusts generally ranging from 45 to 55 mph.
Forecasters say the strongest winds will develop late Friday morning and continue through the afternoon, especially across the southeast plains and exposed areas. Gusty conditions may also extend into nearby mountain passes.
These winds could lead to difficult travel for high-profile vehicles, including trucks, RVs, and trailers, particularly on east–west roads and open stretches of highway. Blowing dust and debris are also possible in more open areas.
Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, including trash bins and lightweight equipment, and use caution when traveling during peak wind periods. Power disruptions are not expected to be widespread but isolated outages cannot be ruled out where winds are strongest.
Winds are expected to gradually diminish Friday evening as the cold front settles farther south.
This alert is especially relevant for commuters, commercial drivers, agricultural operations, and construction crews, as the most hazardous conditions will coincide with daytime travel and work hours.
