Glasgow, Montana — Strong winds developing today will create hazardous travel conditions across the Glasgow area through Friday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, a High Wind Warning is in effect from 11 a.m. today through 5 p.m. Friday for northeast Montana. Northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected, with peak gusts reaching 55 to 60 mph, especially overnight tonight into early Friday.

Forecasters warned that strong crosswinds may affect north–south highways, including U.S. Highway 191, making travel difficult for high-profile vehicles such as semis, campers, and trailers. Brief periods of reduced vehicle control are possible during the strongest gusts.

The National Weather Service also advised residents to secure loose outdoor items, including trash bins, equipment, and lightweight structures, as they could be blown or damaged by high winds.

While winds will remain strong during the day Friday, the most intense gusts are expected overnight, when visibility may be limited and reaction time reduced for drivers.

No precipitation impacts are highlighted with this event, but wind-driven hazards alone may cause travel disruptions and minor property damage.

This alert is especially relevant for overnight drivers, early-morning commuters, and agricultural or construction workers exposed to open terrain.
