Gulf Coast Region – A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect overnight across portions of south and southwest Alabama, northwest Florida, southeast Mississippi, southwest Georgia, with dangerously cold wind chills expected through Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
The advisory issued by the National Weather Service in Mobile runs from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. CST Thursday, covering a broad area from Mobile and Baldwin counties in Alabama, across northwest Florida, and into coastal Mississippi. Wind chill values are expected to drop as low as 13 degrees, creating a risk of hypothermia with prolonged exposure.
A second advisory from the National Weather Service in Tallahassee covers portions of southeast Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, and southwest Georgia from 3–4 a.m. CST / 4–5 a.m. EST through mid-morning Thursday, with wind chills as low as 18 degrees.
In addition to the cold advisory, a Freeze Watch remains in effect from Thursday evening through Friday morning for parts of Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. Forecast lows could fall to 21 degrees, posing a risk to crops, sensitive vegetation, and unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Forecasters urge residents to dress in layers, wear hats and gloves, and limit time outdoors during the coldest hours. Pets should be brought indoors, and space heaters should be used safely. Residents are also advised to protect plants and wrap or drain exposed pipes ahead of the freeze.
The cold snap may be especially impactful for early-morning commuters, outdoor workers, and vulnerable populations across the region.
