Southwest Pennsylvania and Northern West Virginia – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect across higher elevations of southwest Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia, with snow and slick road conditions expected from 5 p.m. Wednesday through Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh.

In southwest Pennsylvania, the advisory includes the higher elevations of Westmoreland and Fayette counties, where 3 to 5 inches of snow are expected, with locally higher amounts along ridge tops. Travel impacts are most likely during the overnight period and into Thursday.

Farther northwest in Pennsylvania, Mercer, Venango, and Forest counties are under an advisory from 5 p.m. Wednesday to 7 p.m. Thursday. Snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are forecast, though isolated lake-effect snow bands could push totals up to 6 inches in localized areas.

In northern West Virginia, advisories cover Preston County and Eastern Tucker County, including Canaan Valley, Davis, Thomas, and Parsons. Snow totals of 2 to 5 inches are expected, with wind gusts up to 50 mph across the highest elevations in Tucker County. These strong winds may cause blowing snow, reduced visibility, and falling tree limbs.

The National Weather Service warned that roads will become slippery, particularly on mountain passes, ridge-top roadways, and untreated secondary roads. Conditions may vary sharply over short distances due to elevation changes and localized snow bands.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and use caution, especially overnight into Thursday afternoon. Travelers can check the latest road conditions by dialing 511 and are encouraged to report snow totals to the National Weather Service as conditions develop.
