CHARLESTON, IL – Eastern Illinois University issued an alert to avoid nearby areas as shots rang out at a Dominos Pizza on Lincoln Avenue today.

According to police the campus swiftly initiated an alert in response to the unnerving incident. While details remain elusive, authorities are zeroing in on an altercation involving two acquaintances.

The suspect, shrouded in anonymity, remains at large, intensifying the ongoing investigation. A joint effort by Charleston Police, EIU Police, Coles Co. Sheriff’s Department, and Mattoon Police, led by Chief Heath Thornton and Deputy Chief Joel Shute, aims to unravel the mystery.
