Gaylord, Michigan – A brief return to above-normal temperatures will give way to renewed winter conditions across northern Michigan this week, with snow showers, gusty winds, and sharply colder air arriving by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, Monday and Monday night will remain mostly quiet, with daytime highs ranging from the low to mid-30s. Conditions change Tuesday as a snow-rain mix develops, particularly during the morning hours across eastern Upper Michigan, where light slushy accumulations are possible on untreated roads.

Temperatures are expected to fall late Tuesday night and through Wednesday as brisk northerly winds develop. Snow showers will become more common, bringing light additional accumulations and reduced visibility at times. Gusty winds may create blowing snow, especially in open areas and along north–south roadways. Highs Wednesday will struggle to reach the lower 30s, with wind chills making it feel colder.

Communities across northern Lower Michigan, including Gaylord, Grayling, and Alpena, as well as parts of eastern Upper Michigan, could see slick travel conditions during the Wednesday commute. Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time as road conditions change.

Thursday is expected to remain cold, though snowfall coverage should be more limited. Officials advise monitoring updates as midweek snow showers and falling temperatures may prompt additional advisories across northern Michigan.
