Memphis, TN – A stretch of chilly, seasonable January weather is settling in across the Mid-South this week, with cold mornings and cool afternoons expected through at least Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a recent cold front has pushed temperatures back to near-normal levels for mid-January. Afternoon highs across the region will generally range from the low 40s to low 50s, while overnight lows dip into the 20s and 30s, especially during the early morning hours.
Forecasters say multiple weak cold fronts will move through the region over the next several days, reinforcing the cool pattern. While no significant winter weather is expected, chilly mornings will be common, particularly for commuters heading out before sunrise.
Cities across the Mid-South — including Memphis, Jackson, Jonesboro, Oxford, Tupelo, and Corinth — can expect a similar temperature pattern. The coldest mornings are most likely early in the week, with gradual moderation later on, though nighttime lows will remain brisk.
A chance for light rain is possible midweek, though forecasters emphasize that no major impacts are anticipated at this time. Aside from that brief chance, the week is expected to remain mostly dry.
Residents are encouraged to bundle up during morning and evening hours, protect sensitive plants, and ensure pets have adequate shelter from the cold overnight temperatures.
While the chill may feel sharp at times, the National Weather Service notes that temperatures are typical for January in the Mid-South, with no extreme cold currently forecast.
