South Bend, IN – Residents across northern Indiana should prepare for slick travel conditions tonight and early Sunday, as a rain and snow mix transitions to all snow showers, bringing light accumulations and gusty winds.

According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, precipitation will begin as a rain/snow mix this evening, then change over to light snow showers overnight as colder air moves in. Most locations are expected to see a dusting of snow, while areas north of the Indiana Toll Road could receive 1 to 2 inches by Sunday morning.

Forecasters say a few locations in southwestern Michigan may see slightly higher totals, depending on how long snow showers persist. Gusty winds will continue through the night and into early Sunday, which could cause blowing snow and briefly reduced visibility.

Snow showers are expected to continue into Sunday morning, with clouds gradually decreasing through the day. High temperatures Sunday will remain cold, topping out in the low to mid-30s, while overnight lows dip into the low to mid-20s.

While widespread heavy snow is not expected, officials caution that even light snowfall combined with wind can create hazardous driving conditions, especially on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. Drivers are encouraged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time for Sunday morning travel.

Residents should continue monitoring local forecasts and road conditions as temperatures fluctuate and snow showers move through the region.
