Concord, New Hampshire – Widespread slippery travel is expected across much of New Hampshire and Maine from tonight through Sunday as a prolonged period of snow, sleet, and freezing rain moves through the region, creating hazardous road conditions from the mountains to the coast.

According to the National Weather Service in Gray, Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for large portions of New Hampshire and Maine through Sunday evening. In New Hampshire, snow accumulations up to 2 inches are expected, along with sleet near a quarter inch and light ice accretion as temperatures remain below freezing. Southern Grafton, Merrimack, Belknap, Strafford, Cheshire, and Hillsborough counties are included, affecting communities such as Concord, Laconia, Keene, Rochester, Dover, and Lebanon.

Across Maine, impacts will vary by region. Southern, central, and coastal areas including Portland, Lewiston, Augusta, Brunswick, Rockland, Bath, and Waterville are expected to see a wintry mix with snow totals up to 3 inches, sleet, and a light glaze of ice. Farther north and west, including Somerset, Franklin, and Oxford counties, steadier snowfall of 4 to 6 inches is expected, with reduced visibility during heavier bursts.

Travel is strongly discouraged during periods of mixed precipitation, especially on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. Even light accumulations may lead to dangerous driving conditions. Officials urge drivers to slow down, allow extra travel time, and monitor road conditions through New England 511 services.

Conditions should gradually improve late Sunday night, though lingering slick spots are likely into early next week as cold air remains in place. Additional advisories or extensions may be issued if precipitation persists longer than expected.
