Grand Forks, North Dakota – A narrow band of freezing rain moved through the Grand Forks area overnight, creating brief but hazardous travel conditions early Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, light freezing rain developed as a band of precipitation moved east across the Minnesota–North Dakota border region. While precipitation amounts were minimal, it was enough to cause slick travel on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.

Forecasters noted that the freezing rain was expected to last about one hour at any given location, limiting widespread impacts. Similar conditions were reported earlier in Pembina County, where slick roads were observed before the band continued east.

The freezing rain threat was expected to diminish by early morning as the system exited the area. However, motorists traveling early Thursday were urged to use caution, especially on secondary roads and elevated surfaces.

Drivers are advised to slow down, increase following distance, and remain alert for rapidly changing road conditions during the early morning hours.
