Charleston, West Virginia – A calm and mild start to the week is settling across West Virginia today, offering dry weather and above-normal temperatures before rain chances return by Tuesday afternoon and continue into Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, highs today will climb into the upper 40s and 50s across much of the state, including Charleston, Huntington, Parkersburg, and Beckley. Southern and western counties are expected to be the warmest, while higher elevations in the eastern mountains remain slightly cooler but still mild for early January.

Dry conditions dominate through the day, making for favorable travel across major routes such as I-64, I-77, and I-79. Clouds will gradually increase tonight, but no precipitation is expected overnight. Temperatures remain relatively mild, helping prevent any freezing concerns heading into Tuesday morning.

Rain chances begin to increase Tuesday afternoon as a system approaches from the west. Showers are expected to expand across much of the state Tuesday evening into Wednesday, with the highest coverage likely across western and central counties. While no severe weather is anticipated, periods of steady rain could lead to slick roads during peak travel times.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the dry weather today and plan ahead for wetter conditions midweek. Forecasters note rain timing may shift slightly, and additional updates or advisories could be issued as the system approaches.
