Michigan greets Monday with a sharp bite in the air and a quiet but watchful start across the Upper Peninsula. Pavement looks dry in spots, but danger may develop quickly after dark.

Early temperatures in Marquette sit near 23 degrees. Winds stay light, allowing cold air to settle near the surface. While skies turn partly sunny today, meteorologists warn a light wintry mix could arrive tonight. Even small amounts matter when roads are cold.

The National Weather Service says freezing rain or drizzle may bring a light glaze of ice late today into tonight. Ice amounts generally stay under a tenth of an inch, but localized slick spots remain possible. Bridges, hills, and untreated roads along U.S. 41 and M-28 deserve extra attention.

Through the afternoon, highs reach near 31. Snow cover softens slightly, leaving damp pavement behind. Once temperatures dip again, refreezing becomes likely. Plan extra time if traveling this evening or early Tuesday.

Tonight stays mostly cloudy with lows near 24. A light glaze of ice may form, especially inland. Conditions remain quiet but hazardous in spots.

Tuesday brings another round of unsettled Winter Weather. Freezing rain is possible early, followed by scattered snow showers. Highs climb to the mid-30s, but precipitation timing favors slippery travel windows. Even light snow can reduce visibility quickly near Lake Superior.

Tuesday night turns colder, with lows near 24. Leftover moisture freezes again, keeping black ice in play. Wednesday improves slightly. Partly sunny skies return, and highs approach 36. Roads gradually recover during daylight hours.

Thursday offers a brief break. Mostly sunny skies push highs near 39, one of the milder days this week. Still, Winter remains firmly in control as snow chances return closer to the weekend.

Northern Michigan drivers should stay alert as conditions change fast.
