Houston, Texas – A mild winter pattern is expected to bring near-normal precipitation to Texas and Louisiana heading into mid-January, with above-normal temperatures supporting periods of rain across the region.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, much of Texas and Louisiana is favored to see temperatures above normal during the January 9–13 period, while precipitation trends near seasonal averages. This setup supports rain as the primary weather impact, with little risk for winter weather or severe conditions.

Across eastern and central Texas, including Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas, periods of rain are possible as weather systems move through the region. Wet roads and reduced visibility may impact travel along I-10, I-35, I-45, and U.S. 290, particularly during morning and evening commutes.

In Louisiana, including Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans, rain may arrive in rounds, occasionally lingering for several hours. While rainfall amounts are not expected to be excessive, brief ponding could occur on low-lying roads and areas with poor drainage.

Travel impacts are expected to remain limited overall, though drivers should remain cautious during periods of rain. Additional updates may be issued closer to mid-January if rain coverage becomes more widespread or persists longer than expected across Texas and Louisiana.
