Concord, New Hampshire – A stretch of milder winter weather could bring periods of rain and the risk of freezing rain to New Hampshire, potentially creating slick travel conditions as temperatures fluctuate heading into mid-January.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, New Hampshire is favored to experience above-normal temperatures during the January 9–13 window, while precipitation trends closer to near normal. This pattern often increases the likelihood of mixed precipitation, particularly when warmer air moves in above shallow cold air near the surface.

Interior and northern areas, including the Lakes Region, the White Mountains, and communities such as Plymouth and Littleton, face the greatest risk for freezing rain, especially during overnight and early morning hours. Even minor ice accumulation could make roads treacherous along I-93 north of Concord, Route 16, and higher-elevation passes.

Farther south, including Manchester, Nashua, and the Seacoast, precipitation is more likely to fall as rain, limiting snow potential but raising the chance for wet roadways and brief ponding. Temperatures near freezing at night could still allow isolated icy spots to develop.

Drivers are urged to stay alert for rapidly changing conditions and allow extra time for travel during the period. Additional advisories may be issued as confidence increases closer to midweek, particularly if colder air presses southward into the region.
