South Bend, Indiana – Northern Indiana remains locked in a chilly, mostly cloudy pattern Sunday, but a noticeable and sustained warmup is on the way as the region heads into the new workweek.
According to the National Weather Service for Northern Indiana, temperatures Sunday will struggle to climb much above freezing, with afternoon highs ranging from the upper 20s to near 32 degrees. Cloud cover will dominate much of the day, limiting any sunshine and keeping conditions feeling colder than average for early January.
Tonight, most of northern Indiana stays dry, but areas near the Michigan border could see a brief round of light snow showers mixed with sleet. The chance remains low, around 20 percent, but any precipitation could create isolated slick spots late tonight into early Monday. Overnight lows will dip into the lower to mid-20s.
Conditions improve steadily starting Monday as warmer air moves in. Highs climb into the upper 30s and lower 40s early in the week, then surge into the 40s and even low 50s by mid to late week. This marks a sharp shift away from winter cold, with dry weather expected to dominate during the warmup.
Travel impacts remain minimal today aside from occasional slick patches, but drivers near the Michigan line should stay alert overnight. The warming trend continues through the week, offering a quieter and more comfortable stretch of January weather across northern Indiana.
