Baltimore, Maryland – Chilly January air remains in place across Maryland, Virginia, and the District on Sunday, but a noticeable warmup is on the way as the workweek begins, bringing increasingly mild conditions to much of the region.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, cool temperatures linger through Monday with highs mainly in the 30s and 40s across lower elevations and colder readings in the mountains. Overnight lows dip into the 20s and lower 30s before the warming trend takes hold.
By Tuesday, temperatures begin climbing steadily, with highs reaching the mid-40s to mid-50s across central Maryland, northern Virginia, and the DC metro. Warmer air continues to build Wednesday and Thursday, pushing highs into the 50s and even lower 60s in lower elevations, well above early January averages. Mountain areas will warm as well, though they remain cooler than surrounding lowlands.
Rain chances remain limited for most of the region, though the Allegheny Mountains could see periods of rain Tuesday into Wednesday. Elsewhere, dry weather is expected to dominate through at least midweek, making for favorable travel and outdoor conditions.
The warming trend strengthens late week, with additional rain chances possible Thursday into Friday as a more active system approaches. Despite the mild stretch, cooler air is expected to return beyond the period, reminding residents that winter is not finished yet.
