Grand Rapids, Michigan – Drivers in central Michigan should prepare for deteriorating road conditions Sunday night as a band of snow moves into Clare and Osceola counties, bringing a slippery start to the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from Sunday evening through mid-morning Monday for Clare and Osceola counties, including the cities of Clare and Reed City. Snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are expected, with snowfall rates near one inch per hour during the initial phase of the storm.

The snow is expected to develop quickly Sunday evening, rapidly reducing visibility and covering roads. Travel conditions may become hazardous overnight, particularly on untreated roads and secondary highways. By Monday morning, a light glaze of ice may develop on top of the snow, further increasing the risk for slick spots during the morning commute.

Local roads, ramps, and bridges are expected to be the most impacted as temperatures hover near freezing. Even brief bursts of heavier snow could cause sudden slowdowns and minor accidents during overnight and early morning travel.

Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time to reach their destinations Monday morning. The advisory is expected to expire later in the morning as snowfall tapers off, though lingering slick spots could persist beyond that time. Additional advisories could be issued if conditions worsen overnight.
