Chicago, Illinois – A noticeable warmup is set to unfold across northern Illinois as the new workweek begins, easing the recent cold and pushing daytime temperatures well above early January norms. While a brief bout of wintry weather is possible late Sunday, most of the upcoming week looks dry and increasingly mild for the Chicago area.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, temperatures will trend warmer through the first half of the week, with highs climbing from the upper 30s and 40s Monday into the 40s and low 50s by Tuesday and Wednesday. Aside from a lower-end chance for a wintry mix near the Interstate 80 corridor late Sunday and patchy drizzle possible Tuesday, dry conditions are expected to dominate.

Across the metro area, Chicago, Aurora, Naperville, and Joliet see improving daytime comfort by Monday afternoon, though overnight lows remain near or below freezing early in the week. Farther north toward Rockford and the Wisconsin state line, temperatures lag slightly but still moderate into the 40s by midweek. Roads should remain in good shape overall, though drivers in far southern sections of northern Illinois may want to stay alert late Sunday evening.

The milder pattern appears locked in through midweek, with no significant winter systems on the horizon. Additional updates will follow if drizzle or late-week changes develop.
