Indianapolis, Indiana – A typical January chill will hold across central Indiana this weekend, but a sharp shift is coming as unseasonably warm air surges into the region next week, pushing temperatures into the 50s by Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, Saturday and Sunday will feature near-normal winter conditions, with daytime highs ranging from the low to upper 30s and overnight lows dipping into the teens and 20s. Skies will remain partly cloudy, and dry weather is expected, keeping travel conditions generally favorable.

The pattern changes quickly on Monday as milder air moves in. Highs are forecast to climb into the 40s and low 50s, marking the start of a stretch of above-normal temperatures. By Tuesday, much of central Indiana, including Indianapolis, Lafayette, Bloomington, and Muncie, is expected to reach the 50s, a notable jump from the weekend’s colder readings.

Dry conditions are expected to persist through the early part of the workweek, allowing snow and ice to melt where present. However, forecasters note that rain chances begin to increase Wednesday night into Thursday as the warmer pattern continues. Highs late next week could reach the upper 50s to lower 60s in some areas.

Residents should remain cautious during cold mornings this weekend, especially where frost or refreezing may occur. Additional updates are expected as rain timing and temperature trends are refined heading into midweek.
