Green Bay, Wisconsin – Drivers across much of Wisconsin should prepare for slippery and potentially hazardous conditions late Sunday into early Monday as accumulating snow is followed by a risk of freezing drizzle, setting the stage for a difficult Monday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, snow is expected to develop late Sunday afternoon and continue through Sunday night, with the highest impacts focused across north-central and northeast Wisconsin. Probabilities for at least 2 inches of snow range from 40 to 70 percent north of a Wausau-to-Manitowoc line, while lower totals are expected farther south.
As the snow tapers off early Monday, a period of freezing drizzle may follow, increasing the risk of ice glazing on untreated roads, bridges, and sidewalks. The combination of snow-covered pavement and light ice could significantly slow travel during the early commute hours. Areas including Rhinelander, Eagle River, and parts of the Northwoods are most likely to see the greatest impacts.
Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time, reduce speeds, and avoid sudden braking. Residents should also take precautions on walkways and steps, where minor icing could lead to falls.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve later Monday as temperatures rise and precipitation ends, but additional statements or advisories may be issued if confidence increases in the freezing drizzle threat.
