Colorado — Headlights fade into a gray wall across the Grand Valley as dense fog settles into low-lying areas before sunrise. The air feels damp and still, and visibility drops fast, catching early drivers off guard.

The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for Grand Junction and much of western Colorado. Visibility may fall as low as one-quarter mile in spots. The advisory remains in effect through mid-morning, especially across the Grand Valley, Gunnison Basin, and Uncompahgre River Basin.

Temperatures hover near freezing early, increasing the risk of slick pavement where moisture settles on cold roads. I-70, U.S. 50, and nearby surface streets may see sudden visibility drops, particularly near river corridors and open fields. Drivers should slow down, increase following distance, and use low-beam headlights.

Fog gradually thins by late morning as clouds lift and daytime mixing begins. Skies trend brighter through the afternoon, with highs reaching the low 50s. Conditions improve for travel by midday, though shaded areas may stay damp longer.

Sunday brings mostly sunny skies and a milder feel. Highs climb into the mid-50s, offering a brief break from winter hazards. That calm window narrows by Sunday night, when clouds increase and the chance for showers develops.

By Monday, scattered showers become more likely, especially during the afternoon and evening. While rain dominates initially, cooler air later in the week may reintroduce winter precipitation chances. Meteorologists note increasing uncertainty midweek, but colder, more seasonal air appears likely by late week.

For now, the main concern remains visibility this morning. Conditions can change block by block in dense fog. Plan extra time if heading out early and stay alert on valley roadways.
