Northeast Ohio remains under a Lake Effect Snow Warning as prolonged snowfall continues to create hazardous travel conditions through Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, Geauga County is expected to receive 8 to 12 inches of additional snowfall, while Lake County and Ashtabula County — including inland and lakeshore areas — could see total accumulations up to 15 inches before the warning expires at 7 a.m. EST Thursday.

Wind gusts reaching 40 mph through this evening will contribute to blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility at times and making travel difficult. The most impactful period of snowfall is expected to redevelop this evening and persist through Thursday morning, following an initial round of snow today.

Road conditions may deteriorate rapidly, especially beneath persistent lake effect snow bands. Gusty winds could also lead to downed tree branches, increasing localized hazards.

The Ohio Department of Transportation urges drivers to delay unnecessary travel and monitor road conditions at ohgo.com. Those who must travel should carry emergency supplies and allow extra time.
