Pueblo, CO – Near-record warmth and dry conditions are returning to southern Colorado Wednesday, creating ideal travel weather but reducing the chances for a white Christmas across most of the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, high temperatures today will climb well above seasonal averages, with some locations approaching or tying daily records. Forecast highs include around 74 degrees in Pueblo, near 70 in Colorado Springs, and upper 50s to low 60s across the San Luis Valley. Dry conditions are expected for most areas outside the mountains.

Snow chances are largely confined to the San Juan Mountains, where light accumulations are possible through Friday. Elsewhere across southern and eastern Colorado, conditions will remain dry, limiting snowfall potential for lower elevations and urban areas.

Forecasters note that while today’s warmth supports excellent travel conditions across highways and mountain passes outside of the San Juans, it also means that most communities will not see snow on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

A cooling trend begins Friday, with temperatures gradually returning closer to seasonal norms. By Sunday, highs are expected to be near average for late December, marking an end to the unusually warm stretch.

The combination of warm temperatures, dry air, and light winds today may feel more like early fall than late December, a notable contrast for holiday travelers and outdoor plans.

Residents and travelers are encouraged to stay updated on mountain weather conditions, especially in the San Juans, where periodic snow could still impact higher-elevation travel later this week.
