Burlington, Vermont – Prolonged light snowfall is expected to affect Burlington and the surrounding North Country from Tuesday through early Wednesday, bringing minor winter travel impacts.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, snow will develop Tuesday and continue through Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning. In Burlington and other valley locations, snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are expected by the time the system exits.

Higher snowfall totals are forecast outside the immediate Champlain Valley. The northern Adirondacks and higher elevations of the central and northern Green Mountains could receive 4 to 8 inches of snow, with locally higher amounts possible at the highest elevations.

Forecasters say the snowfall will be steady but generally light, limiting the risk of major disruptions. However, the prolonged nature of the event may still lead to snow-covered roads and reduced visibility, particularly during the overnight and early morning hours.

Minor winter travel impacts are expected across the North Country, especially on untreated roads and mountain passes. Snowfall rates are not expected to be heavy, but accumulation over time could slow travel.

The timing may affect holiday travelers, commuters, and students, particularly those traveling Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning, when snow will be ongoing.

Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time and monitor local road conditions, especially in higher terrain where snowfall totals will be greatest.
