South Bend, Indiana – A steady warming trend is expected across South Bend this week, with temperatures climbing from the upper 30s today into the upper 40s and 50s by Christmas Day, shifting precipitation from snow to rain.

According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, highs today are expected to range from 38 to 45 degrees, with a low chance of snow this morning. Otherwise, conditions remain mostly dry during the day. Overnight, rain and drizzle chances increase to 20–30%, with lows falling between 32 and 40 degrees.

Tuesday brings continued warming, with highs reaching 43 to 53 degrees, followed by another mild night with lows in the upper 20s to low 30s. By Wednesday, daytime highs are forecast between 38 and 52 degrees, with rain chances increasing Wednesday evening.

The most likely period for wet weather arrives Wednesday night into Thursday, when rain chances rise to 50–70%. On Christmas Day, highs are forecast to reach 46 to 60 degrees, with some locations potentially reaching the low 60s if warmer air pushes farther north.

Forecasters note that while snow chances remain low after today, the warming temperatures and rain could lead to wet roads and reduced visibility, especially during overnight and early morning hours.

The changing conditions may affect holiday travelers, commuters, and those with outdoor Christmas plans, particularly late Wednesday into Thursday.

Residents are advised to monitor forecast updates as timing and rain coverage become clearer closer to Christmas.
