Lubbock, TX – An unseasonably warm and dry weather pattern is settling in across West Texas just in time for the holidays, with temperatures forecast to run more than 20 degrees above normal through Christmas Day.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, a steady warm-up is underway heading into the holiday week, with no rain expected and abundant sunshine across the region. High temperatures will climb well into the 70s and even low 80s, levels more typical of early fall than late December.

On the Caprock, highs are expected to range from the upper 70s to near 80 degrees Monday and Tuesday, easing slightly into the mid-to-upper 70s by Christmas Day. Off the Caprock, even warmer conditions are forecast, with highs reaching the upper 70s to low 80s through midweek and near 83 degrees on Christmas Day in some locations.

Overnight lows will also remain mild, generally staying in the 50s and 60s, limiting any cold-weather impacts. Winds will increase at times, with southwest to west-southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph, particularly early in the week.

Forecasters say the warm, dry pattern is expected to persist through Christmas, benefiting holiday travel and outdoor plans but also increasing fire weather awareness due to dry conditions and gusty winds.

Communities across Lubbock County, Hale County, Hockley County, Cochran County, and surrounding parts of West Texas are encouraged to stay weather-aware and enjoy the mild holiday conditions responsibly.
