Duluth, MN – A quiet and seasonable weather day across northern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin could give way to slick conditions late Sunday night, as freezing rain and light snow move into the region overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, temperatures are expected to rise into the teens this afternoon, accompanied by partly cloudy skies, light winds, and some sunshine. Conditions will remain calm through most of the day, making Sunday one of the more benign weather days recently.

However, forecasters say light precipitation may develop very late Sunday evening, with freezing rain and snow possible overnight into Monday morning. Areas most likely to be affected include the Brainerd Lakes region, the Interstate 35 corridor, and parts of northwest Wisconsin.

While snowfall and ice accumulations are expected to be light, even small amounts of freezing rain could create slippery roads, sidewalks, and bridges, particularly during the early Monday commute. South winds of 5 to 10 mph may also contribute to patchy slick spots.

High temperatures Sunday afternoon are forecast to range from the mid-teens to near 20 degrees, including around 16 degrees in Duluth, 18 in Two Harbors, 19 in Grand Marais, and near 21 in Brainerd.

Residents across St. Louis County, Crow Wing County, Carlton County, and nearby areas of northern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and use caution if traveling late tonight or early Monday.
