Eureka, CA – A strengthening storm system is expected to bring stronger-than-previously-forecast winds to parts of Northern California late tonight and into Sunday, prompting a Wind Advisory for several counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, Humboldt, Mendocino, and Lake counties are under a Wind Advisory as southerly winds increase to 25–40 mph, with gusts reaching up to 55 mph, especially along exposed ridges and coastal headlands. The advisory remains in effect through early Sunday afternoon.

In nearby Trinity County, breezy conditions are also expected, with south winds of 25–40 mph over higher elevations and exposed areas through Sunday.

Forecasters warn that the gusty winds could lead to localized power outages, downed trees, and tree damage, particularly in areas already saturated from recent rainfall. Motorists may encounter debris on roadways, creating hazardous travel conditions, especially on coastal highways and mountain routes.

Loose outdoor objects could be blown around, posing additional risks. Residents are encouraged to secure holiday decorations, trash cans, and other unsecured items ahead of the strongest winds.

The wind event is being driven by a strong area of low pressure moving toward the region, and meteorologists note conditions may change rapidly. Residents across Humboldt County, Mendocino County, Lake County, Trinity County, and surrounding Northern California communities should stay tuned for updates and be prepared for potential disruptions.
