Phoenix, AZ – Unseasonably warm December weather continues across south-central Arizona and far southeast California, with daily temperature records at risk through early next week, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, high temperatures will remain well above normal through at least Tuesday, with several locations expected to tie or break long-standing daily records. Forecasters say the warmest period will occur Sunday and Monday, when record probabilities are highest.

In Phoenix, forecast highs are expected to reach 79 degrees Friday, 77 Saturday, 80 Sunday, and 82 Monday. The record highs for those dates range from 79 to 83 degrees, meaning the city has a high probability of tying or breaking records Sunday and Monday. NWS data shows Phoenix Sky Harbor has an 80% chance Sunday and a 90% chance Monday of at least tying a daily record.

Nearby cities are also seeing exceptional warmth. El Centro, California, is forecast to reach 81 degrees Friday, potentially breaking its daily record, with another record tie possible on Monday. Yuma is expected to hover near record territory as well, with highs around 78 to 80 degrees through the weekend. Even higher-elevation locations like Globe, Arizona, are forecast to reach the low to mid-70s, far above seasonal averages.

Meteorologists attribute the warmth to a persistent high-pressure pattern keeping cooler systems well north of the Desert Southwest. While no heat-related advisories are in effect, officials note minor HeatRisk levels and encourage residents to stay hydrated, especially during outdoor activities.

Despite the warmth, overnight temperatures will remain seasonable, and no precipitation is expected, keeping travel and outdoor conditions favorable.

Residents are encouraged to monitor forecast updates as the record-setting stretch continues into the holiday week.
