Boston, MA – Strong winds and rain will move into eastern Massachusetts on Friday, creating hazardous travel conditions and the risk of scattered power outages across the region ahead of the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. Friday through 1 a.m. Saturday for much of southern New England, including Boston and the Interstate 95 corridor. South winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected, with gusts between 45 and 55 mph. Isolated gusts near 60 mph are possible across southeast Massachusetts and Rhode Island during the morning.
Rain develops overnight and continues through Friday, with the strongest winds occurring late morning through the afternoon before shifting west behind a cold front. Travel could be difficult on exposed roadways such as I-93, the Mass Pike, Route 128, and area bridges, especially for high-profile vehicles. Unsecured holiday decorations and trash bins may be blown around, and downed tree limbs could result in isolated power outages.
Winds remain gusty into Friday evening before easing overnight. The weekend turns quieter and cooler, with sunshine returning Saturday and Sunday. Looking ahead, the pattern remains calm into midweek, with Christmas Eve on Wednesday currently trending dry and seasonable across eastern Massachusetts, favorable for holiday travel and last-minute plans.
The Wind Advisory remains in effect through early Saturday, and additional updates may be issued if wind impacts increase.
