Memphis, TN – A generally mild stretch of December weather is expected across Memphis and the Mid-South beginning Wednesday, with temperatures remaining above average most days and only a brief cooldown expected later in the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the seven-day forecast can best be described as “mild,” with daytime highs frequently reaching the 50s and lower 60s. Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be among the warmest days, with afternoon temperatures climbing into the upper 50s to near 60 degrees across Shelby County and surrounding areas.

Forecasters note that a noticeable, but short-lived, drop in temperatures is expected on Friday. Highs are forecast to dip into the upper 30s to lower 40s, with overnight lows falling into the 30s. Even so, meteorologists say Friday’s cooler conditions will not be nearly as cold as the sharp cold snap experienced last weekend.

Temperatures are expected to rebound quickly after Friday. By the weekend and into early next week, highs are forecast to return to the 50s and lower 60s, continuing the trend of above-normal temperatures for mid to late December. Overnight lows will generally remain in the 40s, limiting the risk of widespread freezing conditions.

The National Weather Service says the temperature pattern reflects an active weather setup across the central United States, with periodic systems preventing prolonged cold air from settling into the region.

Residents are encouraged to stay aware of daily forecast changes, especially with fluctuating temperatures that can affect travel and outdoor plans. While winter officially begins later this month, the current outlook suggests Memphis will continue to experience more springlike conditions than typical for December.
