Albany, NY – Cold but quiet weather will dominate eastern New York and western New England on Tuesday before a noticeable temperature swing unfolds later in the week.

According to the National Weather Service office in Albany, high pressure building in from the south will bring partly to mostly sunny skies Tuesday, along with lighter winds compared to recent days. Despite the sunshine, temperatures will remain below normal, with afternoon highs generally in the upper 20s to low 30s across much of the Capital Region.

Overnight lows Tuesday night are expected to dip into the teens and lower 20s, especially in outlying and higher-elevation areas. Winds will remain light, limiting wind chill concerns.

Temperatures are forecast to moderate closer to seasonal norms on Wednesday, with highs climbing into the upper 30s to low 40s. The warming trend continues late in the week as milder air moves in ahead of an approaching system.

By Thursday into Friday, highs are expected to rise above normal, reaching the upper 40s to near 50 degrees in Albany and surrounding communities. During this period, forecasters say periods of rain are likely, which could lead to wet travel conditions, particularly during commute hours.

A strong cold front is then expected to sweep through the region late Friday into Saturday, bringing gusty winds and a return to colder air. Temperatures are forecast to drop back below normal heading into the weekend, with highs falling back into the 30s.

The National Weather Service advises residents to take advantage of calmer conditions early in the week and remain weather-aware as conditions turn wetter and windier late week.
