Oakland, MD – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for portions of western Maryland and eastern West Virginia from 4 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Baltimore/Washington.

According to forecasters, 2 to 4 inches of snow are expected across Eastern Garrett and Extreme Western Allegany counties, as well as Western Mineral and Western Pendleton counties in West Virginia. Winds may gust up to 35 mph, creating areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Snow is expected to begin between 4 and 6 p.m. Saturday, with the heaviest snowfall likely from 6 p.m. to midnight. During this window, visibility may drop to a quarter to half a mile, especially along higher elevations and exposed ridgelines. Road conditions will become slippery quickly as temperatures fall into the evening.

Travelers heading through the mountains should prepare for slow travel, slick roads, and occasional white-out conditions as snow bands intensify. NWS officials urge drivers to reduce speed and allow extra time, especially on winding mountain roads such as U.S. 219, I-68, and WV-28.

Snow showers and gusty winds will continue into Sunday morning before tapering by early afternoon.

Road condition updates can be obtained by calling 511 for Maryland or West Virginia.
