Glasgow, MT – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Glasgow has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for much of eastern Montana, warning of wind chills between 25 and 35 below zero from Thursday evening through noon Saturday.

The advisory covers Valley, Roosevelt, Richland, McCone, Dawson, Wibaux, and Phillips counties, including the communities of Glasgow, Wolf Point, Sidney, Poplar, and Glendive.

According to the NWS, frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes, and hypothermia is possible with prolonged exposure. Residents are urged to dress in layers, limit outdoor activity, and bring pets indoors whenever possible.

Officials also advise checking on elderly neighbors and vulnerable individuals, ensuring portable heaters are used safely, and avoiding the use of generators or grills indoors to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

While skies will remain mostly clear, the combination of Arctic air and steady winds will drive temperatures into dangerous territory overnight, with lows near -15°F and wind chills plunging even further by early Friday morning.

Drivers and outdoor workers should take extra precautions, keeping emergency kits in vehicles and dressing for extreme cold if travel is unavoidable.

The advisory remains in effect until noon Saturday, when slightly warmer but still below-freezing temperatures are expected to return.
