Omaha, NE – A High Wind Warning remains in effect until 8 a.m. CST Wednesday across much of eastern Nebraska and western Iowa, including the Omaha metro area, where gusts up to 55 mph are expected, according to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley.
Forecasters report sustained northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with higher gusts continuing through early morning, making travel hazardous, especially for high-profile vehicles. The strongest winds are occurring across Douglas, Sarpy, and Dodge Counties in Nebraska, and extending east into Pottawattamie, Harrison, and Shelby Counties in Iowa.
The NWS warns that trees and power lines may be knocked down, resulting in scattered to widespread power outages. Motorists should use extreme caution, particularly on north-south highways, where crosswinds can make driving difficult.
Residents are urged to stay indoors, avoid windows, and secure outdoor objects that could become airborne. If travel is necessary, proceed with caution and watch for debris or downed lines on roadways.
