Lincoln, IL – After a frigid start to the week, the National Weather Service in Central Illinois reports a brief warm-up Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by a return to winter conditions late in the week.
According to the NWS forecast, temperatures will rebound into the 40s on Tuesday and Wednesday, with breezy conditions and a 40% chance of rain Tuesday night into Wednesday. The mild spell will be short-lived, as cold air returns Thursday, bringing a 30% chance of snow that could linger into Friday.
Highs will fall back into the 20s and 30s Thursday and Friday, with nighttime lows plunging into the single digits by Friday night. Wind chills could reach as low as 5 to 20 degrees below zero across portions of the region.
Residents should prepare for wet-to-slick road transitions later this week as rain changes to snow and temperatures rapidly drop.
