Abingdon, VA – The National Weather Service in Morristown, Tennessee, has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Wise, Russell, and Washington counties in southwest Virginia, in effect from 1 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.

Forecasters expect up to 1 inch of snow in lower elevations and up to 2 inches across the ridges and mountain areas. Snow will develop overnight and continue through Monday afternoon before gradually tapering off.

The system is expected to create slippery road conditions, particularly along higher terrain and secondary routes. The Monday morning and evening commutes may be affected by snow-covered or icy roads, especially near Abingdon, Norton, Coeburn, and Lebanon.

Drivers are urged to slow down, use caution, and allow extra time for travel. The NWS advises checking updated road conditions by dialing 511 before heading out.
