Indianapolis, IN – A narrow band of light freezing rain and drizzle could impact central Indiana early Sunday, with slippery travel possible during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, light precipitation is expected between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. across several counties, including Vermillion, Parke, Putnam, Hendricks, Marion, Hancock, Morgan, Johnson, Shelby, and Rush. While ice accumulation should remain minimal, a thin glaze could form on untreated roads, sidewalks, and driveways.

Forecasters say even a light coating of ice can cause hazardous conditions, especially for early travelers. Motorists are urged to drive slowly and allow extra time for their morning routes. Pedestrians should take caution on steps and walkways, as invisible “black ice” may form in spots where pavement temperatures remain below freezing.

Conditions are expected to improve by mid-morning as temperatures gradually rise above freezing.

This special weather statement remains in effect through 10 a.m. Sunday, December 7.
