BOSTON, MA – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for several counties in Massachusetts, with heavy snow expected to drop up to 10 inches in some areas and create very difficult travel conditions through Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service Boston/Norton MA, the Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 7 AM EST Wednesday for Western Franklin MA, Western Hampden MA, and Western Hampshire MA counties. These areas are forecast to see snow accumulations between 4 and 10 inches, with the highest amounts expected north of I-90.
A separate warning is also in effect until 7 AM EST Wednesday for Eastern Franklin MA, Northern Worcester MA, and Northern Middlesex MA counties. This region is forecast for heavy snow with accumulations between 3 and 10 inches, with the higher amounts concentrated in the higher terrain north of I-90.
The hazardous conditions are expected to significantly impact the Tuesday evening commute, making travel very difficult across all warned areas.
The affected cities under the warning include Charlemont, Blandford, and Chesterfield, as well as Greenfield, Fitchburg, Ayer, Barre, and Orange. The National Weather Service advises anyone who must travel to keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in their vehicle in case of an emergency.
