CLEVELAND, OH – Travel along the I-71 corridor in Ohio is being impacted by significant snowfall, with areas south of Mansfield recording the highest accumulation totals thus far as lake-enhanced snow showers continue through the evening.
As of 11 a.m. Tuesday, northern Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania have picked up widespread snow accumulations of 3 to 4 inches. However, according to the US National Weather Service Cleveland OH, areas south of Mansfield along the I-71 corridor have seen higher accumulations, ranging from 5 to 6 inches. This stretch of I-71 is a key transportation artery and the high snowfall total may contribute to difficult driving conditions and travel delays.
The widespread snow accumulation of 3 to 4 inches extends across northern Ohio, including cities like Toledo, Findlay, Cleveland, and Youngstown, and into Meadville, Pennsylvania. Lake-enhanced snow showers are expected to continue this afternoon and into the evening across the snow belt. Some areas are projected to pick up another half inch of snow or so this afternoon.
Motorists are advised to use caution and allow for extra travel time, especially on or near the I-71 corridor south of Mansfield, given the observed snowfall totals and the continuation of lake-enhanced snow activity.
