St. Louis, MO – Snow continues to fall across central Missouri and western Illinois Monday, creating slick roads and hazardous travel conditions ahead of the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 9 p.m. Monday for Adams, Brown, and Pike counties in Illinois, and for several counties in northeast and central Missouri including Knox, Lewis, Shelby, Marion, Monroe, Ralls, Pike, Boone, and Audrain. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are forecast.
A separate advisory is also in effect until midnight Monday for portions of south-central and southwest Illinois—including Greene, Macoupin, Montgomery, Bond, Fayette, Calhoun, Jersey, and Madison—as well as parts of east-central Missouri including Lincoln, Warren, Franklin, St. Charles, St. Louis County, and St. Louis City. These areas can also expect 2 to 4 inches of snow.
According to the NWS, roads across the region will turn slippery and potentially hazardous, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and untreated surfaces. Reduced visibility combined with steady snowfall is expected to significantly slow travel during the Monday evening rush hour.
Communities including St. Louis, Quincy, Columbia, Jefferson City, Alton, Vandalia, and Washington are urged to use caution on the roads, especially as temperatures drop after sunset.
Drivers are encouraged to slow down, allow extra time, and remain alert for slick spots. Officials advise checking GettingAroundIllinois.com for Illinois road conditions and traveler.modot.org for Missouri updates.
Light snow is expected to taper off later tonight, though isolated slick spots may persist into early Tuesday morning.
